Insights into order and customer data through Shopify dashboards

Challenge

The customer, a B2C retailer, had a longstanding wish for further insights into their sales data. The customer uses Shopify as their ecommerce platform, which surfaces some but not all data, and not always at the granularity and aggregations that the customer needed. Among other things the customer needed insights into daily and monthly sales data with comparisons to the previous period, as well as data on customers, showing the lifetime value of different groups of customers.

 

Solution

Sensisize built a dashboard in PowerBI for the customer to show exactly the KPIs and developments that the customer was missing in their ecommerce platform. Sensisize also ensures data is always updated by maintaining a data pipeline that pulls data from Shopify every night, so the customer always has access to fresh data, without any manual exports.


Result

With the dashboards the customer always has access to the newest data, showing KPIs such as profit, number of new and returning customers, number of orders per customer and average customer value. Moreover, the graphs in the dashboard clearly visualize developments, such as accumulated revenue compared to last period, segmentation of customers by number of purchases, and the average value of those purchases. By looking at the average value of purchases for customers with different purchase counts, the retailer gets very detailed information about the value of a new customer, which is especially relevant when combined with the company’s ad spend for that period.
