At Marine Holding ApS, keeping up to date on technological advancements is key. As generative AI tools like Microsoft Copilot become more integrated into our workflows, knowing how to use them effectively is essential. That’s why, during our recent biyearly meeting, Sensisize lead a session on prompt engineering.

What Is Prompt Engineering, and Why Does It Matter?

Prompt engineering is the practice of crafting clear and effective instructions (or "prompts") for AI tools to ensure the most accurate, relevant, and helpful responses. With tools like Copilot, ChatGPT, and others playing a growing role in business operations, understanding how to interact with these systems has become a key professional skill.

During our session, we explored some core best practices, including:

  • Providing clear and specific context

  • Using structured formats

  • Including examples to guide the AI’s responses

Even small improvements in how prompts are written can lead to significantly better outcomes. Practical demonstrations during the session highlighted just how impactful these techniques can be.

The Double-Edged Sword of Online Context

We also touched on the AI’s ability to pull information from online sources. While this feature can enhance the depth and accuracy of AI-generated responses, it also introduces a challenge: control. Since the AI autonomously decides whether or not to consult online data based on the input provided, users don’t always know where information is coming from unless they check the sources post-response.

This unpredictability makes it especially important to review AI-generated content carefully—particularly when using it for business-critical tasks.
